Plenty of Steam, Bags of Punk.

A charming mix of pastoral storytelling,
psychedelic musical musings and a decent slab of good old Rama-Lama!

Short Biog

Formed in 2021, Neovenator continue in the great tradition of off-kilter but entertaining English psychedelic-pop, with a touch of post-punk and a little bit of rock n roll thrown in for good measure.

They released their first EP in 2022 and were featured on Flicknife’s ‘Flipside Freaks: Purple’ compilation, this garnered some great reviews not least of which was from Vive Le Rock magazine who raved about this new ‘psychedelia-tinged garage rock n roll’.

Neovenator’s debut album, ‘Songs From The End Of The Pier’ was released in 2024, with a double A side Single scheduled for release early 2026 and a follow up album later in the year, all on Flicknife Records.

Neovenator gig constantly, and have supported luminaries such as Spizzenergi, The Fallen Leaves and The Vapors , and have played festivals including Glastonbury Psych Fest, as well as Steampunk events Cobbles & Cogs and the Eastbourne Steampunk Festival, playing alongside some of the scene's leading acts

Biography

Long Biog

Neovenator – they come from the land of strange pop, Kingston-upon-Thames. On the fringes of London, on the fringes of music. Feast your eyes on these gentlemen’s raffish deportment, whilst treating your ears to songs of love and hope, set to a bombastic, joyful explosion of delights.

They have, in their four or so years together, played many shows, some prestigious and some a little ill-advised, and they intend to continue in this vein for some time, and have supporting luminaries such as Spizzenergi, The Fallen Leaves and The Vapors . They have also played a number of festivals including Glastonbury Psych Fest, as well as Steampunk events Cobbles & Cogs, The Surrey Steampunk Convivial and Eastbourne Steampunk Festival. Playing alongside some of the scene's leading acts - Professor Elemental, Victor and The Bully, Madam Misfit etc.

Featuring chief songwriter Simon Waller on vocals and guitar, Pete Walter on Bass, Phil Humphreys on drums and Felix Waller on keyboards and atmospheres.

They have unleashed a number of 'discs' into the world, initially an EP produced and released by JC Carroll of The Members, with an inclusion of a track on a Flicknife Records compilation. This was followed up by their self produced debut album, 'Songs From The End Of The Pier', also released by Flicknife Records, in 2024.

The album was positively reviewed by Louder Than War, Vive Le Rock and many other digital and print journals, Ged Babey of LTW calling Neovenator 'a glorious outsider band'. He went on to suggest that if one liked 'Cardiacs, XTC and David Devant, then there would be much to like here'. Here being Neovenator.

The coming year promises many more shows, some prestigious, and we’re sure, some ill - advised, and also the imminent release of a 7" vinyl double A side single (featuring ‘The Air Raid Siren Repairman’ and ‘While The Cat’s Away’). A new album, currently being recorded, will be released towards the end of the year.

Why not join them, on the fringes, as they continue in the great tradition of off-kilter but entertaining English psychedelic-pop, all with a touch of post-punk, and a little bit of rock n roll, thrown in for good measure.

After all, 'opposition to the spectacle can produce only the spectacle of opposition'

“Olde English Peculiar they may be, or Steampunk Psych if you prefer, but fans of the work of Stranglers, Damned, Cardiacs, David Devant etc etc are well-advised to check them out, as there is much here to take to your heart.”
Ged Babey, Louder Than War

“For over 40 years Flicknife has provided a sanctuary for the weird and wonderful, and now Neovenator have joined its fold. It’s an accomplished debut full of wry observations and pleasing hooks.”
Rich Deakin, Vive Le Rock Magazine

“It is garage rock, pub rock, with elements of psychedelic here and there, and feels so very, very English indeed. This is an album to make the listener smile from beginning to end.”
Kev Rowland, House of Prog Radio

“It’s refreshing to hear modern music with something to say, that says it intelligently. Neovenator, plenty of steam, bags of punk. It’s the end of the pier as we know it, and I feel fine.”
Cap Nathaniel Tennyson Skirmish, Steampunk Music & Entertainment

Songs From The End Of The Pier is an otherworldly experience, a psychedelic masterpiece that wraps around your listening apparatus and refuses to let go. Don’t miss it!”
Thoughts Words Action

“It’s an album that belongs in the traditions of some of the great British, idiosyncratic song writers, think Ray Davis or Andy Partridge. It’s a part quirky, witty, and it’s got that political undercurrent too, and some brilliant melodies, in fact it’s stuffed with some very fine pop songs.”
Wallace Dobbin, Louder Than War Radio

“We were unfamiliar with Neovenator before they reached out to us and asked for editorial coverage. We listened to the album on Spotify and liked it so much that we bought it.”
The Steampunk Explorer

“If you like psychedelia-tinged garage rock ‘n’ roll, this excellent debut will float your boat”
Mark Chadderton, Vive Le Rock Magazine
